The Town of Centreville-Wareham-Trinity is seeking applications for a Casual Call-In Maintenance Worker to provide assistance with municipal operations on an as-needed basis.
The successful applicant will be responsible for performing a variety of duties relating to water and wastewater systems, road maintenance, snow clearing, garbage collection, maintenance of municipal buildings and recreational areas, as well as other aspects of municipal operations.
The position will provide relief during employee absences, vacations, emergencies, and periods of increased operational demands.
This position requires flexibility and cooperation in completing a variety of job functions.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leak detection, repairs and dig ups.
- Waterline flushing and preventative maintenance.
- Fire hydrant repair, maintenance and flushing.
- Valve upkeep and repair.
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of municipal water and wastewater systems.
- Maintenance and repair of the water distribution network.
- Monitoring the controls of water and sewer infrastructure, as qualified and authorized.
- Relief work in all areas of municipal maintenance operations.
- Road maintenance and snow clearing.
- Garbage collection and general municipal cleanup.
- Maintenance of municipal buildings, grounds, parks and recreational facilities.
- Operation of municipal vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Other municipal-related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must be certified heavy equipment operators and possess and maintain a valid driver’s licence with Class 3, 5, 8 and 9 endorsements.
- Applicants must provide a clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Applicants must provide proof of their highest level of education.
A minimum preferred qualification of AWWA Level 1 in Water Distribution, or willingness to work towards this certification. - Knowledge and understanding of the installation and maintenance of municipal underground infrastructure is essential.
- Must be physically capable of performing manual labor and working in various weather conditions.
- Must be dependable, flexible, and available to work on short notice, including evenings, weekends and during emergencies when required.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
SALARY:
As per the applicable CUPE Collective Agreement.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
This is a casual call-in position intended to provide relief and additional support to the Town’s regular maintenance staff. Work will be assigned based on operational needs, including employee absences, vacations, emergencies and increased workloads.
Hours of work are not guaranteed and will vary according to the Town’s requirements.
